I am writing to you during a break right now. I am doing some last minute prep for MEGA GEEK FAYRE, which is tomorrow, June 21 2025, at Sachas Hotel Manchester (UK). I am very tired, and I think this might be my last fair for a while, so I wanted it to be a big one.
It is typically an event for people selling board games, art, stickers, and cute things. I like it very much, and I know I stand out, but this time it’s a good thing, all of us stand out in our own way there. Everyone is different and interesting. It’s not like standing out at a depressing open mic because you’re the only one not doing poems about your ex girlfriend. It’s different. It’s fun.
Tickets are £2 on the door and it starts at 11am.
I will be there selling four of my books, each of which were written by humans. In the case of Macabre Multiverse, we had an editor, five authors, and two artists.
I will be taking 45 books in total, and trying to sell them all.
That’s 9 sales per hour.
Or one every six minutes.
Here’s my ‘menu’ of books.
And page two, where you can enjoy deals!
So, to reiterate.
I will be taking 45 books in total, and trying to sell them all.
That’s 9 sales per hour.
Or one every six minutes.
Do you think it’s possible?
Your encouragement is genuinely very helpful. You can feel alone running a small business sometimes, but when I am writing these posts and reading your comments, I don’t feel alone. I feel like I’ve got a community who get what I am trying to build here - a brand new type of publisher.
THE FREE STUFF.
Anyway, today’s freebie shelf is FREE SCI-FI AND FANTASY JUNE 2025.
It’s a basic, easy to understand title.
Here you’ll be getting, you guessed it, free Sci-Fi and Fantasy.
Rant about stuff (by Phillip)
Here at Halfplanet Press, we sometimes participate in freebie shelves by authors we do not yet know in order to find new readers, and to bring our existing readers new stories which they might like, but that we might not publish.
The idea is to bridge that gap that used to exist between publishers and the audience, and the gap between publishers and other publishers, too.
Because the publishing industry is too competitive, too fighty, and it shouldn’t be.
That said, one of the drawbacks of joining new communities is that we don’t know everyone, and their practices might go against our philosophy.
For example, as ‘Artificial Intelligence’ becomes increasingly popular in the writing world, it makes sense that authors giving away free stories might use ‘AI’ to get a book cover, or even some editorial advice.
And outside any arguments about whether this enables human artists to be more picky with the jobs they take up, or if it kills them off entirely, we think going for robots instead of humans for a job as delicate, as HUMAN, as writing, is foolish.
It is the removal of the adventurer from the adventure.
Here at Halfplanet Press, we only publish work from authors we trust, who have not used ‘Artificial Intelligence’ for any of the writing, editing, or formatting. That means 100% of HALFPLANET PRESS books are 100% human written, edited, everything.
We keep this high standard because we believe that if you are going to spend your hard-earned money on literature, you deserve to have an experience that is worth that hard work.
Because why buy ‘AI writing’ when you could just ‘generate’ it yourself at home?
You buy books from Halfplanet because you know that you could not get these stories anywhere else.
Not out of a tap.
Not out of a machine.
Not even out of other humans.
Here, you are supporting Halfplanet Humans, that weird brand of humans who think that time travel might apply differently to mushrooms.
These are odd people you are supporting.
And you always will be if you shop with us.
Thank you.
Best of luck to you! I'm sure you can do it!
